The MVAC is a Technical Working Group (TWG) dealing with matters relating to vulnerability and food security in the country with the objective of providing information to assist in responding to emergency situations in a timely and effective manner. It has been in operation since 1996 and its mandate is to carry out assessments that provide early warning information on the food security situation in the country. During these assessments, critical data is collected in order to find the number of households which are food insecure and the prevailing food prices in the country. When such data is collected and reports are produced, the committee has had no in-country platform for continuous accessibility of the information by the public. This Website, therefore, serves as a platform for sharing data and reports on the food security situation as well as the prevailing food prices in the country to all interested parties.

One element that we have worked hard in transmitting through this page is our strong commitment to building technical consensus by including all key stakeholders ranging from relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to the academic institutions, UN organizations, the academia as well as international and national Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). This is crucial to reach an agreed understanding of the complex problems of vulnerability, poverty and food insecurity. Of course, our work would not have been possible without the constant dedication and collaboration of these member institutions, which have been constantly providing technical and financial support.
